These plates have been introduced to illustrate environmental advantages and limitations rather than to prove any thesis that physical geography is either more or less effective than inherited tradition in shaping institutions and character. Maps drafted but not compiled by the Society: a Based wholly or in large part on maps prepared or used by Dr. A few examples, however, may be given of avenues of research that might well be followed further in directions already marked out in the Atlas.
